چکیده

A publication by Fraunhofer IESE Fraunhofer IESE is an institute of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft. The institute transfers innovative software development techniques, methods and tools into industrial practice, assists companies in building software competencies customized to their needs, and helps them to establish a competetive market position. Abstract Learning in software organisations takes place on both project and organisa-tional level. By learning we mean the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and experiences for better and faster decision making at the various stages of the software development process. Simulation is successfully used in various environments where it is very costly, if not impossible, to conduct experiments in real world settings for the purpose of learning. This paper addresses process simulation in software organisations and how it facilitates learning. The behaviour of very complex and dynamic systems is investigated with the help of System Dynamics models (SDM) and subsequent simulation runs. For the purpose of planning, control and improvement it is shown how SDMs help acquire better and more comprehensive knowledge as compared with the traditional static models typically used in an Experience Factory. The usefulness of the methodological concepts is demonstrated with results of a project conducted in one of the telecom business units of Siemens.

The Embedded Health Management Academic: A Boundary Spanning Role for Enabling Knowledge Translation; Comment on “CIHR Health System Impact Fellows: Reflections on ‘Driving Change’ Within the Health System”

Healthcare organisations are looking at strategies and activities to improve patient outcomes, beyond clinical interventions. Increasingly, health organisations are investing significant resources in leadership, management and team work training to optimise professional collaboration, shared decision-making and, by extension, high quality services. Embedded clinical aca...

A Safety-II Perspective on Organisational Learning in Healthcare Organisations; Comment on “False Dawns and New Horizons in Patient Safety Research and Practice”

In their recent editorial Mannion and Braithwaite provide an insightful critique of traditional patient safety improvement efforts, and offer a powerful alternative vision based on Safety-II thinking that has the potential to radically transform the way we approach patient safety. In this commentary, I explore how the Safety-II perspective points to new directions for organisational learning in...

Reliability analysis of repairable systems using system dynamics modeling and simulation

Repairable standby system’s study and analysis is an important topic in reliability. Analytical techniques become very complicated and unrealistic especially for modern complex systems. There have been attempts in the literature to evolve more realistic techniques using simulation approach for reliability analysis of systems. This paper proposes a hybrid approach called as Markov system ...

Reinforcement learning based feedback control of tumor growth by limiting maximum chemo-drug dose using fuzzy logic

In this paper, a model-free reinforcement learning-based controller is designed to extract a treatment protocol because the design of a model-based controller is complex due to the highly nonlinear dynamics of cancer. The Q-learning algorithm is used to develop an optimal controller for cancer chemotherapy drug dosing. In the Q-learning algorithm, each entry of the Q-table is updated using data...
